Why Two Dice Total 7 Most Often

A single die is uniform — each face has a one-in-six chance. Sum two dice and that changes, because the 36 possible outcomes don't distribute evenly across the totals.

Total 2 — only (1,1). One chance in 36.
Total 7 — (1,6)(2,5)(3,4)(4,3)(5,2)(6,1). One chance in six.
Total 12 — only (6,6). One chance in 36.
