팀 나누기란?

참가자 이름을 넣고 팀 수를 정하면 인원을 무작위로 고르게 배분해주는 도구입니다. 체육 시간이나 조별 과제, 사내 워크숍처럼 사람을 나눠야 할 때 씁니다. 사람이 직접 나누면 아무리 공정하게 하려 해도 뒷말이 남기 마련인데, 무작위 배분은 그런 여지를 없앱니다.

사용 방법

1. 참가자 이름을 한 줄에 하나씩 입력합니다.
2. 나눌 팀 수를 지정합니다.
3. 나누기 버튼을 누르면 인원이 배분됩니다.
4. 결과가 마음에 걸리면 다시 눌러 새로 섞을 수 있습니다.

인원이 딱 나눠떨어지지 않을 때

11명을 3팀으로 나누면 4명·4명·3명이 됩니다. 나머지가 생기면 앞쪽 팀부터 한 명씩 더 배정되어, 팀 간 인원 차이가 최대 한 명을 넘지 않도록 조정됩니다. 인원 수 자체가 유불리를 만드는 종목이라면 이 한 명 차이를 어떻게 처리할지 미리 합의해두는 편이 좋습니다.

주장 지목 방식보다 무작위가 나은 이유

어릴 때 흔했던 방식은 주장 두 명이 번갈아 팀원을 고르는 것이었습니다. 겉보기엔 공정하지만 실제로는 마지막에 남는 사람이 매번 정해져 있다는 문제가 있습니다. 그 자리가 어떤 기분인지는 겪어본 사람은 압니다. 학교 현장에서 이 방식을 권하지 않게 된 것도 이 때문입니다.

무작위 배분은 누구도 고르지 않고 누구도 남지 않습니다. 결과가 불균형해 보여도 그것은 우연의 결과이지 누군가의 평가가 아닙니다. 이 차이가 참가자들이 느끼는 부담을 크게 줄입니다.

더 나은 팀 나누기를 위한 요령

• 결과를 발표한 뒤 조정하지 않기 — 한번 나온 결과를 두고 협상이 시작되면 무작위의 의미가 사라집니다. 다시 돌릴 거라면 발표 전에 정하세요.
• 실력 차가 큰 활동이라면 두 단계로 — 숙련자와 초보자를 각각 따로 나눠 배분하면 팀별 균형이 맞습니다.
• 매번 새로 섞기 — 같은 팀을 고정하면 익숙한 사람끼리만 어울리게 됩니다. 활동마다 다시 나누면 서로 섞일 기회가 생깁니다.

What is the Team Splitter?

How to Use

When Numbers Don't Divide Evenly

Eleven people across three teams gives 4, 4 and 3. Remainders are assigned to the earlier teams one at a time, so team sizes never differ by more than one. If size itself confers an advantage in your activity, agree in advance how to handle that extra player.

Why Random Beats Captains Picking

The familiar playground method — two captains choosing alternately — looks fair but carries a real cost: the same people are always chosen last. Anyone who's stood there knows how it feels, and it's why schools moved away from the practice.

Random assignment means nobody is selected and nobody is left over. An uneven-looking result is just chance, not anyone's judgement of you. That distinction removes a surprising amount of weight from the process.

Tips for Better Splits

• Don't renegotiate after announcing — once results are public, adjustments defeat the purpose. Decide on rerolls beforehand.
• Split in two passes for uneven skill — distribute experienced and new participants separately for balanced teams.
• Reshuffle every time — fixed teams keep the same people together. Redividing each session mixes the group.
